Ladies, A New Anthem: K. Michelle’s “Maybe I Should Call”

“If I can’t write a song about you, I don’t want to date you.”

So says K. Michelle, whose new album Anybody Wanna Buy A Heart (#AWBAH) is truly the musical version of wearing your emotions on your sleeve. Calling herself¬† “the Black Taylor Swift” at a recent private event previewing the album plus the first episode of her VH1 reality show My Life (which airs tonight), K is very clear her songs are dedicated to former loves.

“Maybe I Should Call” is about an athlete K was dating who lived overseas. It encompasses the messiness of modern day relationships with her desire to call and fix things but her pride not allowing her to: “But I never call / Maybe that’s my flaw.”

Anybody Wanna Buy A Heart drops December 9.

Holy Ass! Nicki Minaj Gets Physical In “Anaconda” Video

When Nicki Minaj dropped the cover art for “Anaconda,” it promised nothing more than a whole lotta ass for the song’s video.

Aside from an awkward lap dance with Drake and an annoying tirade against “skinny bitches in the club,” the song is fun and the visuals feature Nicki and a select group of curvy dancers twerking in locations as varied as a jungle house and fitness room. It’s the 2014 ode to Sir Mix-A-Lot‘s “Baby Got Back” (sadly with a lot of buns and not much anaconda).

Redemption Song? Lil Mama Kills “0 To 100” Freestyle

Lil Mama recently dropped her “0 to 100” freestyle (a.k.a. “The Lyrical Purge) and it is fire.

Female rappers are experiencing a renaissance moment and it’s exciting to see the cream (slowly) rise to the top. Lil Mama has always been nice on the mic; let’s hope she stays on this path.
