Another Day, Another Guarded Interview From Nicki Minaj

Will Nicki Minaj ever give us the interview we’re all waiting for?

The world’s most successful female rapper covers Billboard‘s latest issue and while she’s a little more open here than her recent banal GQ feature, no new ground is covered. As long as the photos are pretty, right?

“You should always be competing. You should always be trying to show that you’re the best,” says Nick when speaking on her artistry. It would be phenomenal if she realized being “the best” is multifaceted and not just based on talent alone, and the reason she’s not an even bigger star is because she’s sadly become so guarded and insular.

Artists like Nicki and Kanye West don’t give real interviews anymore. Have you noticed? They’re two of the most interesting stars of our time yet they come to the table with prepared responses and in ‘Ye’s case, barely pay attention to what’s being posed to them. Opening up is never easy, especially if it’s to an audience of millions, but when you stop doing so you lose the real fans who loved you for being real in the first place.

Journalists need to start (respectfully) asking tougher questions and not be afraid of upsetting the artist, while the artist needs to be a little more fearless and honest with their answers. Something for both to keep working toward. Until then, here’s another cute photo. ‘Cause that’s what’s really important, right?

When it comes to drama touching her family empire, Tina Knowles doesn’t play.

Known to be fiercely protective and private, Mama Knowles was stopped by TMZ and asked about the persistent divorce rumors surrounding daughter Beyoncé and husband JAY Z. While most would have ignored the cameraman or replied rudely, the family matriarch gave a clear and direct answer.

“Haters gon’ be haters,” she simply replied. “There’s nothing we can do about that. Everything is perfect. I just don’t even read the bull.”

Jay and B recently wrapped their successful “On The Run” Tour and Beyoncé is set to perform at the Video Music Awards this Sunday 8pm ET on MTV.

Are You Ready To “Chime For Change” With Beyoncé, Salma Hayek & More For Women’s Empowerment?

What better way to finish up Women’s History Month than with a powerful new event for us to celebrate?

Chime For Change is the brainchild of Gucci’s fearless frontwoman Frida Giannini in partnership with Salma Hayek-Pinault and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (the latter two whose surnames reflect their stance on equal rights for the ladies). It is a global campaign aimed at raising funds and awareness in support of projects for girls and women around the world.

“I am proud to be joining the growing international movement on behalf of girls and women around the world,” says Hayek-Pinault. “I believe that by working together we can change the course of history to ensure that girls and women are empowered to realize their potential and thrive.”

Earlier today it was announced during a press conference in London Beyoncé will headline a concert there on Saturday June 1 in support of the campaign, with guest performers including Rita Ora, Florence and the Machine, Ellie Goulding and Australia’s own Iggy Azalea. Dubbed “The Sound Of Change Live,” the concert will also show inspirational short films and stories highlighting women’s global issues.

“Our goal is to call for change for girls and women in the loudest voice possible,” said Mrs Knowles-Carter. “I am excited for us to come together on June 1 to bring the issues of education, health and justice for girls and women to the world stage.”

Tickets go on sale at 9am tomorrow, Northern Hemisphere time (Wednesday March 27). There will also be the option to choose which charity ticket sales will be donated to as Gucci is graciously covering the show’s expenses.
